In this article, we will try to read about What is Itikaf in Ramadan and Its Types in Islam. The meaning of I’tikaf in the dictionary is: to stay and in the terminology of Sharia it means: to stay in the mosque, to fast, to completely abandon sexual intercourse and to make the intention to draw closer to Allah Almighty. However, the condition of staying in the mosque is only for men. This condition is not for women. I’tikaf can be performed in every mosque. However, some jurists have made it a condition of a mosque. There are three types of I’tikafs

‘Wajib: This is the I’tikaf for which a vow is made that if Mir-e-Khayf is done, I will perform I’tikaf for so many days for the pleasure and happiness of Allah Almighty.

Sunnah Mu’akdah: I’tikaf for the last ten days of Ramadan. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) often observed I’tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan. If for some reason he could not observe I’tikaf in one Ramadan, he would observe I’tikaf for twenty days in the next Ramadan.

Nafl I’tikaf: Whenever you enter the mosque, make the intention of performing I’tikaf.

Conditions of I’tikaf:

The following describes what itikaf is Ramadan, its terms and conditions. Be sure to read it:

(1) It is a condition to make the intention of observing I’tikaf.

(2) It is a condition to observe I’tikaf in a mosque where there is a call to prayer and I’qamah and congregational prayers are being held.

(3) Fasting is a condition in obligatory I’tikaf. Fasting is not a condition in voluntary I’tikaf, nor is there a time limit.

(4) Islam, that is, being a Muslim, is a condition for observing I’tikaf.

(5) Intellect means that a sane, intelligent person should not be insane or bewitched.

(6) It is necessary to have passed from Janabat, menstruation and post-partum period. Being of age is not a condition for observing I’tikaf, nor is being free or male. Women should reserve a prayer space in their home for I’tikaf and sit in that space.
