In this article, we will study Surah Mursalat. The Surah is named after its opening word, “Mursalat.” It consists of two sections. In Surah Mursalat, Allah swears by several creations to affirm that the Day of Judgment is certain to occur. After that, the dreadful scenes of that Day are vividly described.

English Translation of Surah Mursalat

Think of those who are sent abroad with goodness.

Then those who drive away the chaff.

And those which scatter (the seed of goodness) full and wide

Then those who discern a distinction.

Then those who give the reminder.

To make clear or to warn:

Indeed, the promise with which you are warned is certain to be fulfilled.

So, when the stars are caused to be extinguished.

And when the heaven is torn asunder.

And herewith the mountains are swept away with dust.

Then the prophets will be brought together at the time fixed for them.

To which day is the fate determined?

To the day of judgment.

And herewith, she will cause you to understand what the day of judgment is.

Woe to the rejecters on that day.

Did we not annihilate the preceding nations?

Then did we pursue her with her heritors.

Even so, we shall treat the guilty.

Calamity on that day for the rejecters.

Did we not create you from despicable water?

Then we placed it in a safe resting place.

Until an appointed time.

So, we proportion it, how well are we at proportioning (things)?

Calamity on that day for the rejecters.

Have we not made the earth to converge upon itself?

The living and the dead.

And created in its lofty mountains, and provided you with a drink of sweet water?

Woe on that day to the rejecters.

Move forward towards the shade with three divisions.

Neither providing the shade’s coolness nor protecting from the flame.

Surely it sends forth sparks like palaces.

As if they were tawny camels.

Woe on that day to the rejecters.

This is the Day when they will have no words to utter.

And permission won’t be granted to them so that they can make excuses.

Woe to the rejecters on that day.

This is the day of choice: we’ve called you and those who lived before.

So, if you do possess a plan, plan against me (now)

Woe to the rejecters on that day.

Surely those who are guarding (against evil) will be in shades and fountains.

And fruits similar to what they like.

Enjoy your food and your drink on account of what you have been doing.

Truly thus do we recompense the doers of good.

Calamity that day for the rejecters.

Enjoy your food and your drink for an interval: truly, you are sinners.

Calamity that day for the rejecters.

And when they are asked: Prostrate before Allah.They do not prostrate themselves.

Then, what revelation after this will they choose to believe in?

Summary of Surah Mursalat

In this blessed Surah, Allah Almighty has addressed those who deny the belief in the Hereafter and then repeatedly told them that there is a great loss for the deniers.Muslims should recite the Holy Quran frequently. Make it a habit to recite Surah Duha in your prayers as it glorifies the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).

After studying Surah Mursalat, we can conclude that whoever abandons the right path and strays into the depths of error. Commits crimes of immorality and debauchery.

If He acts unjustly and violently against His creation, then it is the Sunnah of Allah Almighty to destroy and annihilate such a person.
