Surah Duha English Translation
- By the dawn (such as by the dawn of your message) (whose light has set aside the night of misguidance in light)
- And by the night when it covers
- Your Lord has not deserted you (as He preferred you) nor has He waxed angry (as He made you beloved)
- And surely (each) subsequent hour is better for you than the first (i.e., a cause of greatness and elevation)And your Lord will soon bestow upon you (so much) that you would be content
- 6 (Oh Beloved!) Did He not leave you an orphan, then He gave you a station (of honor and honor)
- And He found you lost and astray in His love, so He led you to your goal
- And He found you needy (for the truth), so He freed you from all need (by making you experience His pleasure and giving you eternally)
- So do not be stern with an orphan
- And do not scold a beggar
- And speak of the blessings of your Lord
The etymology of “Dhuha” and “Sajja”
“Dhuha” signifies: rising of the day and expanding of the sun.
“Sajja” signifies that it has come to rest, it has rested, it has reached its destination.
The Glory of the Revelation
Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him) did not come down for forty days, and it is said that he did not come down for three days.
The Meccan polytheists said: If he were sent by Allah, then revelation would have been relentlessly coming down to him, just as revelation had been
relentlessly coming down upon the prophets who were before him. Now Allah Almighty has turned away from him and is displeased with him; so, revelation is not coming down to him. Then Allah Almighty sent down this Surah in answer to him and stated in it:
Your Lord has not turned away from you nor has He become displeased with you.
The Almighty’s oaths by the coming of day and night
(1) This is the oath of the noon prayer or the hour of the day when Allah Almighty blessed Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) with the word.
(2) The oath of the day is that. It is the day when Allah Almighty declared the House of Allah the Qiblah for your prayers, to please you.
(4) “Wal-Dhuha” signifies: By your shining face (and “Wal-Lail” signifies: By your dark locks).
(5) “Wal-Dhuha” signifies: By the people of your household, and “Wal-Lail” signifies: By the women of your household.
(6) “Wal-Dhuha” signifies: By the days of revelation, and “Wal-Lail” signifies: By the time when revelation was withheld from you.
(7) “Wal-Duha” signifies: By the emergence of Islam in the early times, and “Wal-Layl” signifies: By the hiding of Islam in the proximity of the Hour, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asserted, Islam was unfamiliar in the early times and will become unfamiliar shortly. (Musnad Hamd, Vol. 4, p. 73). There are some more important Surahs of the Quran, such as Surah Falaq and Surah Nasr. Surah Nas and Surah Maun.
