Translation of Surah Balad English
- I swear by this city (Makkah)
- (O beloved!) because you are in this city
- (By your) father (Adam or Abraham) and by those who were born
- Certainly, we have brought man into existence with difficulty.
- Does he believe that no one will ever be stronger than him?
- He says, “I have wasted wealth.”
- Does he think that no one has observed him?
- Did we not make for him two eyes?
- And a tongue and two lips?
- And we showed him both ways.
- So he did not emerge from the abyss (of religion).
- And what will inform you of what the abyss is?
- The loosening of a neck.
- Or eating on a day of hunger. An orphaned relative.
- Or a poor person who is in the dust.
- Then he should be among those who believe and remind one another of patience and remind one another of mercy.
- These are the ones on the right.
- And they are those who reject Our verses, who are on the left.
- Fire is shut over them in every direction.
