In this article, we will read the Full Surah Munafiqun. The first verse begins with the word “al-Munafiqun”. Also, this Surah describes the hypocrites. That is why it was named “al-Munafiqun”. It has two bows.
The Battle of Banu Mustaliq took place in the year 6 AH. This Surah was revealed about an incident that occurred when the Muslims, after being victorious in the Battle, were staying at a well called Marisi. Therefore, it can be said with certainty that this Surah was revealed during the return journey from the war in the sixth year of Hijra or immediately after reaching Medina.
Translation of Surah Munafiqun
(1) When the hypocrites come to you, they say, “We testify that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah.”
Allah knows that you are truly His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are surely liars.
(2) They use their oaths as a shield and thus turn others away from the path of Allah.
Indeed, what an evil thing they do!
(3) That is because they believed, then disbelieved; so a seal was set upon their hearts, and they do not understand.
(4) When you look at them, their appearance pleases you, and when they speak, you listen to their words.
They are like pieces of wood leaning against a wall.
They think every shout is against them.
They are the real enemies — so beware of them.
May Allah destroy them! How deluded they are!
(5) And when it is said to them, “Come, so that the Messenger of Allah may seek forgiveness for you,” they turn their heads away.
You see them holding back arrogantly and refusing to come.
(6) It is all the same for them — whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask — Allah will never forgive them.
Surely Allah does not guide the rebellious people.
(7) They are the ones who say, “Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah, until they leave him.”
But the treasures of the heavens and the earth belong only to Allah — yet the hypocrites do not understand.
(8) They say, “If we return to Madinah, the more honorable will surely expel the weaker.”
But honor belongs only to Allah, to His Messenger, and to the believers — yet the hypocrites do not know.
(9)O believers! Do not be so absorbed in your wealth and children that you forget Allah’s remembrance
(10) And spend from what We have provided you, before death comes to any of you, and he says:
“My Lord, if only You would delay me for a little while, I would give in charity and be among the righteous.”
(11) But Allah will never delay a soul when its appointed time comes.
And Allah is fully aware of all that you do.
