Importance of Sacrifice in Islam

In this article we will read about the Importance of Sacrifice in Islam. Sacrifice is derived from Arabic word Qurb that means being close – that is, divine closeness – in simple language, sacrifice means offering a living being to the pleasure and closeness of God – as if sacrifice is a way of achieving closeness to God in general and specific issues – as if slaughter is not a sacrifice, but the factor of closeness to God is added anyhow – just as doing a good thing and accepting it is a vast difference, similarly there is a vast difference between making a sacrifice and attaining closeness to God. Not all sacrificers can locate God – the flowers of knowledge bloom on soft and gentle hearts and not on rocky and barren ground

Here are some hadiths regarding the Importance of Sacrifice in Islam:

To understand Importance of Sacrifice in Islam we must follow The Holy prophet, so Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (RA) relates: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) informed him: O Messenger of Allah! What are these sacrifices? He (peace be upon him) replied: It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (peace be upon him) (since the Quraysh belonged to the family of Ibrahim).

The companions enquired: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What is there in it for us? He (peace be upon him) said: There is a good act in each hair (of the sacrificial animal). The companions inquired: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him What compensation for the animal’s wool? He (peace be upon him) replied: There is a good act in each hair of the wool. (Sunan Ibn Majah: 3127)
