Revelation and Gabriel (PBUH)

To understand Surah Alaq English Translation, must read this paragraph. One night, while the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was in seclusion within the Cave of Hira, a heavenly being suddenly appeared before him. The angel ordered, “Recite.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) answered, “I am not a reader.” The angel then hugged him in a firm grip, squeezing the Prophet (peace be upon him) so hard that he felt utterly drained of strength, and released him, again saying, “Recite.” Again, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I am not a reader.” This happened three times in the same way. In each of these instances, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) responded in the same manner, refusing the command to recite.

The angel then proclaimed, “Recite in the name of your Lord who created.” Following this, the first five verses of Revelation were sent down. After experiencing this profound moment, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) made his way back home.

He went to Umm al-Mu’minin, Hazrat Khadija al-Kubra (may Allah be pleased with her), and narrated the whole incident. He came in a state of trembling and said to Umm al-Mu’minin, Hazrat Khadija al-Kubra (may Allah be pleased with her), to throw a cloth over me.

Umm al-Mu’minin, Hazrat Khadija al-Kubra (may Allah be pleased with her) encouraged him that Allah would not disgrace him. He maintains ties of kinship. He speaks the truth. He helps the weak. He is hospitable. Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Khadija al-Kubra (may Allah be pleased with her) took the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Waraqah bin Naufal (who was a Christian scholar). Waraqah bin Naufal, after hearing the whole matter, said that this is the same honorable angel who had brought revelation to Moses.

Oh, Allah will never make you a Messenger. Allah is witness that you maintain ties of kinship, speak the truth, bear the burden of the weak, give wealth to the poor, show hospitality, and help those who are in trouble in the path of truth.
