In verse 164, Allah declares the sending of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺAs a great favor and blessing upon the believers, reaffirming his prophetic duties. Meanwhile, the hypocrites sought to torment the warriors of Uhud emotionally, repeatedly telling them that had they followed their advice, they could have avoided such consequences. To console the believers, Allah honored the martyrs with these words:
Do not believe that those who have given their being for Allah’s way have ceased to exist. Instead, they are thriving in the presence of their Lord, blessed with provisions. They find joy in the bounties that Allah has graciously granted them.”
The disbelievers are warned that the respite they enjoy in this world will ultimately lead to their greater destruction. The more they persist in their defiance, the heavier the burden of consequences they will bear.
Verse 180 admonishes the wealthy misers who hoard the wealth given to them by Allah and refuse to spend in His cause.
They are warned not to assume that withholding their wealth is in their favor. Rather, it will be a source of misery for them, and on the Day of Judgment, their amassed wealth will be turned into a yoke around their necks as a form of punishment.
Verse 183 mentions the Jews’ demand for a miraculous sign to validate a prophet’s truthfulness. They insisted that a true prophet must offer a sacrifice for Allah, which should then be consumed by a divine fire from the heavens.
However, they are reminded that this stubborn demand is not new. Even when past messengers presented such miracles, did all people believe in them?
Verse 190 and the following verses highlight that in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of day and night, there are clear signs for people of wisdom. These are those who remember Allah in every state—standing, sitting, and lying down—and who deeply contemplate the divine wisdom in the creation of the universe.
