Basic components for the stability of the family system

In this article, we will study the basic components for the stability of the family system. The stability of the family system means the stability of society. The Quran and Sunnah have not only explained the mutual rights and duties of the family members and the society, but have clearly explained all the small and big principles of family stability. Because the most important unit of society is the family and for it, only the explanation of rights and duties is not enough. Islam has molded the family into a system where selfishness and egoism are eliminated. This fact is explained by Allah Almighty in this way:

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّن بُيُوتِكُمْ سَكَنًا

“And Allah has made your homes places of rest for you.”

It can be said that the word “Usra” (family) means “as” (foundation), and it is on this foundation that the family system is built. The following principles are necessary for the stability of the family system:

Faith-Based:

The relationship between family members is not merely worldly and material, but rather it is a higher and superior spiritual relationship and a strong faith-based relationship. If this relationship is strong, it will last not only in this world, but also in the Hereafter. This is what Allah Almighty has promised.

“They will enter gardens of eternal residence, and with them will be the righteous among their fathers, their wives, and their offspring.”

There is also a mention of this in Surah At-Tur:

وَ الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَ اتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّیَّتُهُمْ بِاِیْمَانٍ اَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّیَّتَهُمْ وَ مَاۤ اَلَتْنٰهُمْ مِّنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِّنْ شَیْءٍؕ

We joined the children of those who believed and their descendants in their faith, and we did not in the least lessen their actions.

Islam does not structure the family system solely in terms of worldly benefits, but also includes otherworldly benefits.

Moral Basis:

Islam strongly recommends that family relationships be based on morality. Each individual should fulfill his moral duties and promote kindness, selflessness, and mutual cooperation within the family.According to the Prophet (PBUH), “the best of you are those who are best to their families, and the most perfect in faith is the one with the best morals.” (Tirmidhi). By adopting these principles, it is possible to form a stable, prosperous, and exemplary Islamic family.

Emotional basis:

It is important to have a deep bond of love and affection between family members, because this is what provides peace, comfort and security to the home environment. That is why Islam has emphasized mutual affection and sincerity so that a happy atmosphere is established in the family.
