Welcoming Ramadan
About Ramadan Fasting and Spiritual Growth For Muslims, Hazrat Salman Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the last day of Shaban, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) addressed his companions and said:
“O people! A great and blessed month has come to you. A month in which there is a night (which is) better than a thousand months. Allah Almighty has made fasting in this (blessed month) obligatory, and standing in its night is a voluntary (i.e. Sunnah). Whoever does a good deed in it is as if he had performed an obligatory prayer in any other month, and whoever performs an obligatory prayer in it is as if he had performed seventy obligatory prayers in other days.
This is the month of patience, and the reward for patience is Paradise, and this is the month of compassion (i.e. compassion and goodness). In this month, the provision of the believer is increased.
Whoever breaks the fast in it will have his sins forgiven and his neck will be freed from the Fire, and whoever breaks the fast in this month will have his sins forgiven and his neck will be freed from the Fire. The one who breaks his fast will have the same reward as the one who fasts, without any decrease in his reward.”
We said,( about Ramdan spiritual renewal) “O Messenger of Allah, not every one of us has the means to break his fast.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah will give this reward to the one who breaks his fast with a sip of milk, a date, or a sip of water. And whoever feeds a fasting person to his full stomach, Allah will give him to drink from My fountain, so that he will never be thirsty, and he will enter Paradise.” (Sahih An-Khuzaima, Volume 3, Page 191)
