Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Who among you consider martyrs?” Or the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who is killed in the way of Allah (we consider him a martyr) said: If that is the case, then the martyrs of my ummah will be very few. The Companions of The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked, “O Messenger of Allaah( peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), then who are the martyrs?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: He who is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr, and whoever goes out in the way of Allah (and dies without joining any battle of jihad, or whoever goes out for any service to the religion of Allah and dies in the meantime) is also a martyr, and whoever dies of plague is also a martyr, and he who dies of stomach is also a martyr.
Upon hearing this, ‘Ubaidullah ibn Muqtad said to Suhail, who was narrating from his father through Abu Hurayrah( may Allah be pleased with him), “I am a witness to your father’s narration in this hadith and it is also mentioned in this hadeeth that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “He who drowns is also a martyr.”
On this, it is very important to know for whom the word martyr can be spoken. Martyrdom is a great status and a great place. This place is available to those lucky people whose destiny always has success written in them. The place of martyrdom is at the third level of prophethood. Most people in our society, due to ignorance and ignorance, fail to raise many such people to the status of martyrs, about whom there is no such good news in the Qur’an and Hadith. In order to make the general public aware of this, such hadiths are being quoted below in which the types of martyrs have been described in the light of the Hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) so that we should be careful about using the word “martyr” after any person leaves this darfani.

Martyr literally means witness, witness of something.
In Islam, it means one who sacrifices his life while serving the religion of Allaah, fighting in the field of jihad or in the path of jihad or in the preaching of religion, and the death which has been declared as the death of martyrdom. Giving life while fighting in the way of Allah is called martyrdom, while in addition, martyrdom is called hukmiyyah.
Below are some of the virtues of the martyr:
The martyr suffers as much of the murder as one of you feels the bite of an ant. (Mushaqat al-Masabeeh, Hadith 3658)
No one will be injured in the way of Allaah, and Allah knows best who was injured in His way, but he will come on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that his wound will be spewing blood, whose color will be like blood and the fragrance will be like musk. (Mushaqat al-Masabeeh, Hadith 3626)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Verily, Allah bestows six rewards on a martyr.”
As soon as the first drop of his blood falls, He forgives him and shows him his place in Paradise.
Punishment protects him from the grave.
On the Day of Resurrection, he will be given great nervousness.
- He will place a crown of dignity on his head, whose power will be better than the world and everything else in it.
- He will marry the best of the horas.
- He will accept intercession in favour of his seventy relatives.
- Further prizes for the martyr are quoted below.
- The martyr is forgiven as soon as the first drop of blood falls on the ground.
- The head of the martyr is in the lap of Horain.
- The martyr will be dressed in a janti dress.
- The martyr will be adorned with the best fragrances of the world.
- The martyr will see his place in Bahisht.
- The martyr will be allowed to travel all over the world.
- Curtains will be removed from the front of the martyr and the martyr will be musharraf by visiting God.
- On the Day of Resurrection, the martyr will do intercession.
Types of Evidence
Shaheed-ul-Ma’iraka:
He who is killed fighting with the disbelievers and polytheists in the field of jihad in good faith for The sake of Allah.
Fi Hukm-ul-Shaheed, the one who gets the status of death of martyrdom, i.e. in addition to the field of jihad, such a death which was declared as the death of martyrdom.
Allaah has not elevated the ummah of His beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to the status of martyrdom only in the form of jihad, but also in the form of suffering, difficulties and troubles that occur while living in this worldly life. If he goes, he has been elevated to the status of a martyr. As narrated by Jabir ibn Atiq (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
There are seven martyrs who were killed in the way of Allah. Mitoon is a martyr and the drowning is a martyr, the one who dies of the disease of jaat-ul-janb is a martyr and the one who dies of stomach disease, and the one who dies under the debris is a martyr and the woman who dies in the state of pregnancy is a martyr. Sunan Abu Dawud Raqi al-Hadith 3111
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
سَیِّد الشُّہَدَاء حَمْزۃ بْن عَبْد الْمُطَّلِب، وَرَجُل قَامَ إِلَی إِمَام جَائِر فَأَمَرَہ وَنَہَاہ فَقَتَلَہ
Al-Sayyid al-Shuhada is Hamza ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib (may Allaah be pleased with him), and he is the one who stood before the unjust ruler. So the ruler killed him (he is also a martyr).
Sa’id ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
مَن قُتِلَ دُونَ مَالِہِ فَہُوَ شَہِیدٌ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ دُونَ اَھلِہِ او دُونَ دَمِہِ او دُونَ دِینِہِ فَہُوَ شَہِیدٌ
The person who is killed while protecting his property is a martyr and the person who is killed while protecting his family is a martyr and the person who is killed while protecting his life is a martyr and he who is killed while protecting his religion is also a martyr. Sunan al-Nasa’i, 4106
In the light of the above hadiths, the following types of martyrs emerge:
To be killed in the way of Allah, that is, martyred battle and according to the definite consensus of The Muslims, this is the best martyrdom.
One who dies in the way of Allah, that is, one who goes out in the way of Allah and dies, such as Ghazi, Muhajir, etc.
- Death from plague, the one who died of plague.
- One who dies of stomach disease.
- The one who drowns.
- The one who died under the debris.
- The person who dies from jaat-ul-janab (jaat-ul-janab is a disease in which there is usually swelling in the inner sides of the ribs due to stomach swelling, which causes death).
- One who is burnt to death by fire.
- A woman who dies due to pregnancy pain who has a baby in her stomach.
- A woman who dies of childbirth after delivery.
- Death due to lung disease (sil).
- Who was killed while protecting his property.
- Who was killed while protecting his family,
- Who was killed while protecting his life.
- Who was killed while protecting his religion.
- The one who is killed in front of the cruel and oppressive ruler for following the amr al-mu’min and na’i an al-mankar will also be martyred.
Apart from these, there is no news from Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) that he should be considered a martyr, so we should try to call only those people about whom hadiths are narrated as martyrs. Allaah knows best
