In this article, we will try to read about the relationship between the Quran and fasting. Allah Almighty said in the very beginning of the Holy Quran:
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًۭى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
This is the Book, there is no doubt about it, and (this Book) is a guidance for the righteous.
While mentioning the benefits of fasting, Allah the Almighty said:
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous.
If we try to understand these two blessed verses, we can conclude why fasting and the Quran are so closely related. In the blessed hours of this holy month, we should try to attain piety through fasting and the Quran so that it becomes easy to understand the Quran and the ability to bear the burden of the Quran’s trust is also created.
The Holy Prophet, the Quran and Fasting
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had immense love for the Holy Quran. He used to recite the Holy Quran with Hazrat Gabriel (peace be upon him) while fasting during the month of Ramadan.
Achieving Taqwa through Quran and Fasting
There is no more effective prescription for achieving Taqwa than reciting the Quran, fasting, and staying up all night. In other words, we can say that Allah Almighty has made it easier to achieve Taqwa by combining all these acts, namely reciting the Quran, fasting, and staying up all night, in the holy month of Ramadan. When we fast, we restrain our bodies from eating, drinking, and sensual desires from morning to evening. When night comes, we stand up and listen to the recitation of the Holy Quran and listen to the recitation of the Holy Book at least once a month. All these acts are performed to please Allah Almighty and to achieve Taqwa.
Conclusion
After this discussion, we can conclude that the relationship between the Quran and fasting is very deep. It is possible to attain the pleasure of Allah Almighty and piety through the Quran and fasting.
