Surah An Nas Transliteration and Ruqya

Surah An-Nas (Arabic: The surah named as Sūrat an-Nās (People) or more commonly Sūrat al-Mulk (The Dominion) is the last of the one hundred and four surahs of the Quran. It has 6 verses (ayahs on average) and is a Meccan surah revealed in Makkah. This is to say that; Al-‘Asr means The Time, and An-Nas which means The Mankind is to draw attention of mankind to their state of weakness that they require Allah’s protection.

It is one of the two surahs that are named Al-Mu’awwidhatayn, on account of the general tenor of the prayer that is invoked therein and in surahs 113, Al-Falaq. Both are considered as protective chapters that a spiritual wall against the evil doers.

Like any other Surah, Surah An-Nas also endorses the protection for Allah from the whispering and control of Shaytan and other harms. It is a prayer directed to Allah, identifying Him with three divine attributes: Lord (Rabb) and King (Malik) and God (Ilah) of mankind.

Text and Translation

Here is the Arabic text with its English translation:

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

Physically, pretend to be talking to someone and mutter the words, “I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind,

مَلِكِ النَّاسِ

The King of mankind,

إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ

The God of mankind,

من شر الوسوات الخناسِ

From the evil of the whisperer (the devil), who goes to far as to withdraw.

Attached in the breast of people

On whose lips does Flicker murmur to the beings of the Earth?

مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ

He who is truthful with six partners is the truthful one, and the fraudster is he who is untruthful with six partners; truthfulness is between jinn and between mankind.

Benefits of Surah An-Nas

Spiritual Protection

An-Nas is an appeal against evils not seen with our naked eyes, evils in the form of whispering of the Shaytan and evi elements of the jinn and the human beings. It guards against thinking negatively about ourselves, doubting and negativity from others.

Strengthens Tawheed or Oneness of Faith Regarded here not simply in the religious sense, but more in the broad sense of emphasis on Singularity the world over as the solution to global ills.

Because of this theme of tawhid only Allah being the Lord, King and God established in this surah, Muslims affirm that only Allah is all powerful and therefore helps build a Muslims iman and dependence only in Allah.

Healing and Ruqyah or may also be termed as Spiritual remedy

In specific, like Surah Al-Falaq, the Surah An-Nas is often recited during Ruqyah—the act of using Quran to repel evil. Both of these chapters were employed by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) for protection from harm, and recitation as a remedy for illness and diseases, mundane or spiritual.

Ease from Anxiety and Worries

Saying this Surah means believers will get comfort and reassurance due to acknowledging Allah as the master over all things. It assists to overthrow both specific and fruitful fears and anxieties, which unfolded either from outside or from inside.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to teach us to recite Surah An-Nas, as well as Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Ikhlas before going to bed. He would blow over his hands and rub on his body part in order to protect himself from the spirits.
