Spiritual Journey: Shab e Meraj Mubarak

Hazrat Malik ibn Sa’sa narrated that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) narrated the details of the night of Isra’ and Mi’raj to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, “That night I was lying in Hatim, and on some occasions he mentioned lying in Hijr. Suddenly,y an angel came to me and tore open my body from here to here.”  In this essay, we will study the spiritual journey: Shab e Meraj Mubarak.

The narrators say that by “from here to here” the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) meant the entire area from the nape of the neck to the pubic hair. Then the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, “This angel tore open my chest and took out my heart. After that, a golden plate was brought to me, filled with faith, and my heart was washed in it. Then the heart was filled with (the greatness and love of Allah or the wealth of knowledge and faith), and then the heart was placed in its place in the chest.”

To understand the spiritual journey: Shab e Meraj Mubarak, one must read this essay till the end. In one narration, it is said that then my stomach (all the things inside or the place of the heart) was washed with Zamzam water. And then faith and wisdom were filled in it. After that, a riding animal was brought, which was lower than a mule and higher than a donkey. This animal was white in color, and its name was Buraq (meaning its speed was known). Wherever it could see, it would take one step.

I was mounted on it, and Gabriel (peace be upon him) took me until I reached the heaven of the world (i.e., the first heaven). Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked to open the door, so it was asked (by the gatekeeper angels) who is there? Gabriel (peace be upon him) said I am Gabriel. Then it was asked Who is with you? Gabriel (peace be upon him) replied! Muhammad (peace be upon him). Then it was asked! Someone was sent to call him (Muhammad ﷺ) (or he came himself). Gabriel (peace be upon him) replied, “He has come as invited.” Then the angels said, “We welcome Muhammad ﷺ, blessed is the one who comes.”

After that, the door of heaven was opened, and when I entered heaven, I saw that Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) was standing in front of me. Gabriel (peace be upon him) said, “This is your father (i.e., the supreme ancestor, Adam). Greet him.” I greeted Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him), and he responded and said, “I welcome the blessed son and the righteous prophet.”

After that, Gabriel (peace be upon him) took me to another heaven. He asked to open the door. It was asked, “Who is it?” I am Gabriel (peace be upon him). Then it was asked, “Who is with you?” He said, “Muhammad ﷺ.” Then it was asked, “Who was sent to call him?” Gabriel (peace be upon him) said, “Yes!” Then the gatekeepers said, “Who is there?” We welcome Muhammad (peace be upon him). Blessed is the arrival of the one who comes.

After that, the door of heaven was opened, and when I entered heaven, I saw that Hazrat Yahya and Jesus (peace be upon him) were standing. When I entered the third heaven, I saw that Hazrat Yusuf (peace be upon him) was standing in front of me. When I entered the fourth heaven, I saw that Hazrat Idris (peace be upon him) was standing in front of me.

When I entered the fifth heaven, I saw that Hazrat Harun (peace be upon him) was there. Gabriel (peace be upon him) said, “This is Harun, greet him.” I greeted him, and he responded to my greeting and said, “I greet the righteous brother and the righteous prophet.” When I entered the sixth heaven, I saw that Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) was standing in front of me.

Gabriel (peace be upon him) said, “This is Musa.” When I entered the seventh heaven, I saw that Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was standing in front of me. Gabriel (peace be upon him) said, “This is your father (the heir of the highest rank), Abraham (peace be upon him), greet him. I greeted him, and he responded to my greeting by saying, “I welcome the blessed son and the righteous Prophet.” We have read about the Spiritual journey: Shab e Meraj Mubarak in this essay.
