Hanafi School:
The school of Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) is clear that smoking breaks the fast. It is clear in authoritative books such as Fatawa Hindiya, Fatawa Shami (Rad al-Muhtar):
“And from this it is clear the ruling on smoking cigarettes… and whoever smokes it while fasting, undoubtedly breaks the fast.”
Malikian School:
The same ruling is also in the school of Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him). According to him, anything that enters through the throat, whether in the form of food or drink or in the form of smoke, invalidates the fast.
Shafi’i School:
The school of Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) also states that cigarette smoke entering the throat breaks the fast. According to his principles of jurisprudence, this “smoke” (smoke) is included among the things that break the fast.
