Maliki School of Thought:
According to Imam Malik, masturbation is forbidden.
Shafi’i School of Thought:
According to Imam Shafi’i, masturbation is forbidden, no matter what the situation.
Hanbali School of Thought:
According to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, masturbation is forbidden, and it is a type of adultery.
Ruling on Masturbation in Ramadan
Masturbation while fasting:
According to all Imams, masturbation while fasting breaks the fast and both qadha and kaffarah are obligatory, because it is an act of intentionally ejaculating semen.
Hanafi School of Thought:
• If a fasting person masturbates and as a result semen is ejaculated, his fast is broken and both qadha and kaffarah are obligatory.
Shafi’i School of Thought:
• Masturbation while fasting invalidates the fast and qadha is obligatory.
Masturbation at night (when not fasting)
Masturbation during the nights of Ramadan is makruh, tahrimi, and haram.

Occupation and Busyness:
Keep yourself busy with useful tasks.
Protection of the eyes:
Avoid obscene pictures and videos.
Social life:
Avoid loneliness and choose good company.
Dua and Istighfar:
Seek refuge in Allaah and ask for forgiveness.
Ruling in general situations:
Masturbation is forbidden by the majority of jurists (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, Hanbali)
In the Hanafi school of thought, it is makruh tahrimi (nearly forbidden)
In other schools of thought, its prohibition is more severe
In the state of fasting during Ramadan:
For the fasting person, masturbation and the resulting discharge of semen invalidates the fast
In this case, along with qadha, kaffarah is also obligatory
This ruling is agreed upon by all juristic schools of thought
During the night hours during Ramadan:
Masturbation at night is makruh tahrimi
It does not affect the validity of the fast, provided that the necessary purity is achieved.
