In this article, we will try to read the English Translation of Surah Insan. This blessed Surah is known as ‘Surah Dahr’ and ‘Surah Insan’. It has other names, but they are not very famous. It consists of two bows. It was revealed in Mecca, according to the majority of scholars.
Man, who today is proud of his strength, equipment and wealth and has forgotten his Creator, is being told that you were not like this from the beginning, but you have been created from nothingness and the powers of consciousness and hearing that have been given to you are a test for you to see whether you will be among the grateful servants of Allah.
Surah Insan English Translation
- There surely did come a time upon man when he was nothing worth talking about.
- Surely, we formed man from a mingled drop, to try him; thus, We granted him the faculties of hearing and sight.
- Certainly, we guided him to the path – whether he will be grateful or ungrateful.
- Indeed, for the disbelievers, we have prepared chains, shackles, and a blazing Fire.
- Certainly, the righteous will drink from a cup mixed with camphor.
- A spring from which Allah’s servants will drink, abundant in running.
- They will fulfill their vows and fear a Day of evil that spreads everywhere.
- And they give food, despite their own need, to the poor, the orphan, and the captive.
- They declare: ‘We provide you food solely for Allah’s pleasure. We seek neither compensation nor gratitude from you.
- Verily, we are apprehensive of that Day before our Lord, a Day heavy with trials and sorrow.
- So, Allah protected them from the evil of that Day, and granted them brightness and joy.
- And He will reward them for being patient with the Garden and an apparel of silk.
- They will lie in it on thrones, seeing neither scorching sun nor biting cold.
- And its shadows will be brought near to them, and its fruits shall be lowered in reach to them.
- Handles of silver and cups of crystal will be passed between them.
- Crystal clear, silver made – precisely measured.
- And they shall be made to drink a cup blended with ginger.
- A spring within, named Salsabil.
- And forever youths will circle them, appearing like scattered pearls.
- When you cast your eyes there, you will observe pleasure and a splendid kingdom.
- They will be dressed in green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, adorned with silver bracelets, and their Lord will give them a pure, refreshing drink.
- Truly, this is the reward granted to you, and your labor has been appreciated completely.
- Indeed, we have revealed the Qur’an to you gradually, in stages.
- Thus, endure with patience what your Lord commands, and do not obey any wrongdoer or rejecter among them.
- And remember the Name of your Lord morning and evening.
- And in the night, humbly worship Him and praise Him long in the night.
- Certainly, these men are fond of the transitory life and leave behind them a burdened Day.
- We created them and made their bodily frame, and when We will, We can bring them back to life by a-like body.
- Most surely this is a reminder; so, whoever wills may take the path to his Lord.
- But you cannot force except as Allah forces. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
- He embraces with His mercy whomsoever He desires, but for those who do evil, there awaits a harsh penalty.
Importance of Surah Insan
Guidance and Misguidance:
It informs man about the paths of guidance and misguidance and tells how man can choose between good and bad deeds. Muslims should recite the Holy Quran frequently. Make it a habit to recite Surah Duha in your prayers as it glorifies the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).
Characteristics of the Righteous:
The Surah mentions the characteristics of the right-doers and their deeds due to which they are deemed worthy of Allah’s mercy.
Paradise and the rewards received therein:
It describes Paradise for the right-doers and the rewards received therein, which they will receive due to their obedience to Allah and good deeds.
Importance of the Quran:
The Surah also highlights the importance of the Quran and the teachings contained in it.
Allah’s Power and Wisdom:
This Surah highlights Allah’s absolute power and wisdom, which are evident in the creation of the universe and the guidance given to mankind.

Surah Insan reminds us of Allah’s boundless mercy. He forgives the mistakes of His servants and accepts the repentance of those who turn back to Him with good deeds. The Surah highlights the creation of man and the two paths laid before him, the way of goodness and the way of evil.
It speaks of the reward for righteous deeds and the punishment for wrongdoing. It emphasizes the oneness of Allah and His supreme power. The Surah also portrays the mercy and forgiveness of Allah, while describing vivid scenes of the Resurrection and the Hereafter.
